Phenax variegata
(Olivier, 1791)

Synonyms: Aphana variegata, Phaenax reticulara, Eumallia variegata, Fulgora variegata

Phenax variegata is a lanternfly widely distributed in the tropical South America from Venezuela to northern Argentina. Like many other members of the family it has reticulate venation of the wings, which adds to camouflage. This species also has waxy cotton-like covering of the ventral side and tail protrusions. P. variegata feeds on tree sap, likely of various species, considering its extensive range.
